Keroro Gunsou

Keroro Gunsou

Synopsis

Keroro is a frog-like alien sent from his home planet on a mission to conquer Earth. But when his cover is blown, his battalion abandons him and he ends up in the home of the Hinata family. There, he's forced to do household chores and sleep in a dark basement that was once supposedly a prison cell haunted by the ghost of an innocent girl. He even spends his free time assembling Gundam model kits. During his stay, Keroro meets up with subordinates who were also stranded during their failed invasion.

Main Character

Keroro

Keroro (ケロロ)
Keroro is the main protagonist of the series. Keroro is the sergeant and leader of the Keroro Platoon. His self-introduction at this time is The Gamma Planetary System, the 58th Planet, Space Invasion Army Special Tactics Platoon Leader, Sergeant Keroro.

Keroro lurked in the Hinata household until he was discovered by Natsumi and Fuyuki, after which he was captured. With the Kero Ball, his weapon, taken from him and his army having abandoned him, Keroro easily surrendered. The freeloader (formerly a prisoner of war) becomes troublesome for the Hinata Family. Each time he is found guilty of something, Natsumi physically abuses him to no end. But now, through being the housekeeper of the Hinata household, Keroro has become familiar to living an adventurous life on Earth.

His favorite dishes include fried potatoes, dango, carambolas, and caviar. He also likes making Gunpla and reading manga.

Giroro

Giroro (ギロロ)
Corporal of the Keroro Platoon. Giroro's history in war left him with a scar and weapon belt in memory of his killed friends. Giroro loves Natsumi Hinata and he would attack anyone who harms her. His weapon expertise and power makes him a powerful member of the platoon.

His often aggravated and irritably short tempered self is caused by the lackadaisical and unfocused members of the Platoon, especially Keroro, in their invasion of Pekopon.

Giroro is often used as comic relief throughout the series, as he resides outside of the Hinata house in his tent. Most often he is crushed by something dropped from Natsumi's window, or a falling object from space, usually containing an alien of some sort (or Karara). His afro, which only appears after being caught in a blast or Dasonu*Maso's afro beam, is blond.

Tamama

Tamama (タママ)
Tamama is private second class of the Keroro Platoon. He is the newest member in the planetary invasion troop, and also the youngest. His name stems from the Japanese word otamajakushi "tadpole". While his age is unknown, Etsuko Kozakura has stated that she voiced Tamama as someone who was 19 years old. He is a very faithful subordinate to Keroro.

Tamama is possessed of a tendency to have mood swings that border on a split personality, just like his partner Momoka Nishizawa. While usually gentle and cheerful, Tamama can become a vengeful, raving maniac at the drop of a hat[1]. This change is usually accompanied by the sound of a balloon popping.

Tamama is also prone to fits of jealousy, usually towards anyone who gets near Keroro (especially Angol Mois, who he frequently refers to as "that woman").

Tamama likes junk food (especially candy, cake, cola, and potato chips) and physical training (he has his own private training room in the Nishizawa Mansion). In the anime, Tamama is diagnosed with high blood sugar because of his love of sweets, as revealed with a physical checkup.

Tamama's least favorite sound is nails on a chalkboard. He also dislikes Angol Mois and often calls her "that woman", as he considers her a rival for Keroro's attention. Despite this, Mois seems blissfully unaware of Tamama's hatred towards her.

Kururu

Kururu (クルル曹長)
Kururu is the head of communications in the Keroro Platoon. Although he is of a higher rank than Keroro, he is not the leader of the Platoon due to his unpleasant and unnerving demeanor, which has given him the nickname of 'Yellow Devil'. His blood type is AB, which is befitting his Japanese blood type theory of personality . His name comes from the Japanese word for the phrase "round and round" ("kurukuru"), referring to the spirals seen on his glasses.

Kururu, a Sergeant Major in the Keron Army and the head of communications, is the brain of the Keroro Platoon. He is mischievous, deceitful, and downright evil and enigmatic, almost to the point where some people might call him a mad scientist[citation needed]. He is generally disliked by everyone, most of the characters seeing him as a depressing jerk and in the series, action figures of him tend to sell very poorly on Keron, (much to Kururu's chagrin but Kururu seems to take pride in his bad attitude).

Despite this, he gets along quite well with Mutsumi and Aki Hinata. Kururu and Giroro greatly loathe each other due to their vast differences (Brain vs. Brawn)and as a result, Kururu usually uses Giroro as a guinea pig for any invention that he creates.

By the third season, Kururu seems to have developed a sort of crush on Giroro, much to the corporal's horror, blushing whenever Giroro pays extra attention to him, and wasting no opportunity to woo Giroro by way of gift or twisted invention. Whether this affection is genuine, or merely a new way for him to torment Giroro remains a mystery. Being the least emotional of the Keroro Platoon, he is almost never seen being moved to tears or smiles by any events, though at the same time he rarely, if ever, panics when something goes wrong, likely due to the multiple dangers from his own inventions outweighing it.

Dororo

Dororo (ドロロ , ゼロロ)
Lance Corporal Dororo (Formerly known as Zeroro) is the Keroro Platoon's assassin who crash landed on Pekopon and was forgotten about by his platoonmates (as usual.). Soon after, he found his leg caught in a bear trap and awaited his lonely death, until he was rescued by female ninja Koyuki Azumaya (With the help of Zeroyasha, the dog, in the anime). He decided to follow the way of the ninja, he changed his name to Dororo, the name of the forest where Koyuki rescued him. Dororo is often forgotten about by the rest of the platoon and most everyone else but Koyuki, which will cause his Trauma Switch to turn on. When this happens, a purple, gloomy era radiates from Dororo and he will sit in a corner or dark space and cry. His Trauma switch is usually activated when he is reminded of something done to him by Keroro during thier childhood, Such as using him as a sheild in a snowball fight caused him to remember when he was used in the same way during a dodgeball game.

Dororo has a love for all creatures and nature of Pekopon. He has stated that he has "fallen deeply in love" with the planet (Episode 13). As a result, he will not participate in plans that will potentially harm people's feeling or nature, or endanger any wildlife species on the planet. Dororo has vowed to protect Pekopon at all costs along with Koyuki.

As a child, Zeroro loved to garden, which he still does. Dororo even has his own lovely garden in the underground base of the platoon, where he grows both plant species that are native to Pekopon and other alien planets. He uses gardening as a way of meditating (along with reading and actual meditating, usually ontop of high places like liamp posts or trees) to train his physical and mental swiftness.

Young Zeroro was part of a large, wealthy family. Unfourtunately, Dororo has never had a strong aura of presense, much to the point where people won't notice he's there even if he's standing right next to them. Thus, little Zeroro never had many friends until Keroro and Giroro came along. Zeroro would do most anything to stay friends with the two, even when they (mostly Keroro) would often to things that led to his feelings being hurt or his possesions broken, and occasionally physically hurt. Over the years, Keroro has broken Zeroro's precious music box, used his stamp collection, stolen the strawberries of Zeroro's cake, wrote all over his books and taken advantage of his kind nature.

Despite his mistreatment, Zeroro retained his sweet, humble and kind personality and doesn't hold a grudge or want revenge against Keroro (unlike his counterpart in the Garuru platoon, Zoruru), though he will break down and cry when reminded of one of his experiences as a child. Dororo used his natural quietness and ability to be unoticed in the form of stealth after inspired (ironically) by Keroro to become an assassin in the Keronian Military. He joined an elite group of assassins along with Zoruru, led by Jirara, before departing for Pekopon as a Lance Corporal (In the manga, formerly a Private Second Class).

Dororo often ends his speech with "De Gozaru", an archaic form of "Desu". Also, Dororo adressed himself as "Sessha", an archaic male form of "I" primarily used by Samurai.

Early in the series, one of Dororo's more common actions was to speak to Keroro and the others in the form of a shuriken made of paper which acted as a note, when needed. The shuriken would always seem to stick itself in Keroro's head, usually causing him to freak out until it's removed by another platoonmate. Dororo does not need to be close by to perform this.

One of Fuyuki's most recognizeable traits is that what he lacks in physical stamina, he fills with a gentle, kind heart and an amazingly excessive ability to forgive. He is the opposite of his sister Natsumi in many ways. First of all, their personalities vary widely, since Natsumi tends to be very outgoing and quick-tempered as well as strongly athletic, whereas Fuyuki is much more calmer and reserved, and tries to avoid fighting and physical education as much as he can, but does unleash a full body of bottled anger that even frightens Natsumi when he is uncharacteristically furious. Also, their names and traditional colors are opposites, as Fuyuki's name means "winter tree" and blue is his signature color and Natsumi's means "summer beauty" and has red as her symbolic color. Fuyuki is an obsessed expert of the paranormal and science fiction, and for unknown reasons, he tends to encounter many of the bizarre creatures that he knows whenever at an episode that centers around him, most of them being quite epic. His appearance reflects that of a normal Japanese boy; black hair, dark violet eyes, and an average figure.

Fuyuki has a close bond with Keroro that exceeds space, even though Keroro is supposed to be his enemy. Fuyuki always affectionately calls him 'gunso', or 'sergeant', and they sometimes spend quality time together whether it would be playing at the park or unwittingly helping Keroro in another one of his idiotic schemes to help conquer Earth. Although Fuyuki is well-aware that Keroro is an invader alien, he always gets upset when he catches him plotting or scheming and uses one of his signature lines, "Aren't we friends?!" to weaken Keroro. He is also the one to always stop the sergeant whenever the alien's plan is to completely destroy Earth, saying that if the Earth is blown away, so will all the Gundam model factories, as Gundam-making is one of the sergeant's most obsessive hobbies. He is also responsible on keeping the Kero-ball away from the sergeant, since it is a devastatingly dangerous but strange Keronian weapon that Fuyuki sometimes uses as a toy/weapon.

Fuyuki also has a unique bond with Alisa Southerncross, since Alisa always uses Fuyuki as bait to attract aliens, or "dark" or "cursed ones", as she and her father calls them. Although any other person would've absolutely hated this position, Fuyuki forgives Alisa about this, since Alisa was actually a puppet and her father thought that by hunting aliens, she would eventually gain humanity.

Their bond often infuriates Momoka Nishizawa, his classmate, who has an amorous crush on Fuyuki and often comes up with plots to attract his attention (humorously, these often-failing plots are a major part of the series' comedy). Fuyuki doesn't seem to feel any romantic feelings toward Momoka, since he always calls her "Nishizawa-san", a proper term to address a stranger or someone who is high in social class (as Momoka is extremely affluent). However, he does love her as a close friend and would never abandon her.

Despite his unearthly patience with the insanity that seems to flower in the wake of Keroro and the others, Fuyuki does have a temper. When his temper is up, which admittedly takes A LOT, Fuyuki is capable of terrorizing not only Keroro and the platoon but his sister and regular people as well.

Overview

Natsumi is a short-tempered girl who is extremely athletic, cute, and smart. She can be very scary and violent when in anger mode, but can also be very sweet and brave. She can be sarcastic and careless sometimes when she's trying to enjoy herself and seems to be a pretty big video game fan, but cares deeply about her family (and her surrogate alien "family" members). Natsumi is pretty popular in school due to her amazing strength, but at grade school, she was nicknamed 'Devil Summer' in the manga because of her short temper until she became more mature in middle school. Like any other 14-year-old girl, she has some insecurities, especially around Saburo, whom she has a huge crush on, and has a girly-girl side. Natsumi seems to have a city-girl side, because when downtown Tokyo was in a power surge in an incredibly hot summer day, she looked really desperate and cried for help. She likes to listen to Mutsumi's radio show, but whenever she tries to listen to her letters that she sent there, she always gets interrupted. At school, she's friends with Yayori and Satsuki, and especially Koyuki, and shows her around the city part of Tokyo (which Koyuki is completely unaware of), and becomes a real friend to Koyuki. She's rivals with Keroro and calls him 'boke kaeru' (stupid frog) all the time. The only time when she called Keroro by his real name was when he defeated her in a swimming contest fair and square and decided to call a truce (until they were interrupted by Tamama) and when he joined the Garuru Platoon and Natsumi tried to snap him out of it. Ironically, she was the first one to discover Keroro at episode 1 and chapter 1 (so she can awake the occult-obsessed Fuyuki), who was hiding at Fuyuki's bedroom wall. She is suspicious of Keroro and the rest of his alien squad (except Mois), but then got used to their presence and kind of treats Keroro as a friend/slave and puts him down with most of the house chores, and even developed some feelings for Giroro. She is later given a neck brace invented by Kururu that transforms her and gives her the powers of a real-life Gundam and uses the neck brace whenever the team could use her help. Her favorite food is baked sweet potatoes and her weakness is anything that's creepy-crawly (especially slugs). Natsumi's name means '723' and 'summer beauty'. She has the word 'summer' in English on her bedroom door, and is part of the kaito team 'MorePeachSummerSnow'. Source - Wikipedia
