Synopsis

By a bizzare coincidence, Tsukune Aono has accidentally gotten himself admitted to a youkai academy, a school attended by monsters. Just when he thinks he'll run away from there, he meets the beautiful girl Moka and his mood turns ultra happy. However, she transforms into her true form when the rosary on her chest is taken off, she's a super vampire!

Moka is a student of the Yokai Private Academy. She's the first person Tsukune met when he first set foot on the monster realm. Moka's true form is a vampire but she is very sweet and kind. She takes a liking to Tsukune after sucking his blood and seems to get addicted on doing so.

The reason Moka wears a rosary around her neck is due to her 'inner self'. When her rosary around her neck is removed (to date Tsukune is the only one capable of removing it), the seal that was keeping her true nature is released. A few physical changes occur, signifying her transformation into a super vampire. Her hair turns silver, her pupils turn to slits, along with a corresponding flash of light. More important than any superficial change, Moka's inner personality rises to the surface. Cold and bloodthirsty, the 'inner' Moka is actually a completely different entity from the 'outer' Moka, even going so far as to specifically remind Tsukune to 'be kind to the other Moka'.

Moka is also one of the most popular girls around the school so she gets a lot of attention around the guys, but she pays them no attention with the exception of Tsukune (much to the guys' dismay). Moka is an excellent student, ranking 13th overall on the school exams, and also a member of the Newspaper Club. Moka is afraid of water, the reason being the purifying powers of water have an adverse effect on Vampires, hurting them as well as rendering them unable to properly function. It's revealed in an omake that she loves tomato juice, but prefers Tsukune's blood.

Tsukune Aono (青野 月音)

Main male protagonist. A completely average human being, he is mistakenly enrolled in an academy for youkai. He soon meets Moka Akashiya, a Vampire who takes an interest in him due to the 'sweet' taste of his blood. Afraid for his life and ready to leave the school, it is only his feelings for Moka that get him to continue attending the youkai academy. Though he has no special powers of his own, he constantly attempts to protect his friends with his own life.

Later on the manga chapters he acquires vampiric, and then ghoul-based powers (the latter of which puts his humanity in jeopardy), allowing him to fight toe-to-toe with supernatural opponents.

In the last episode of Capu2, Tsukune used his vampiric powers to get the rosary from Moka and Kokoa's dad.

In late chapters, he was submitted to a hundred niddle ritual to change his body constitution in order to be able to use youkai techniques. As a result, he transformed himself in a more sinister monster than a ghoul. Being a bit conscious he was saved by a kiss given by Kurumu allowing the last needle to hit. He is now able to perform youkai techniques and evolve further.

Kurumu Kurono (黒乃胡夢)

Age: 15-17

Kurumu Kurono is a succubus, and is initially jealous of Moka's popularity overshadowing her own, though she eventually considers Moka a friend. She tries to seduce Tsukune and the male student body, using her charming techniques (through her succubi abilities, including her busty physique), making them her slaves. This is so she can find her "mate of fate", in order to save her diminishing species, with the assumption that Moka is blocking her path. After Tsukune persuades the unsealed Moka to spare her, she becomes infatuated with him and makes a decision that he will be her "mate of fate", becoming friends with the pair.

While she does continue to tease and try to seduce Tsukune, it is clear that she possesses true and honest feelings for him- she's been shown to be willing to risk her life for him numerous times throughout the anime and manga. In the manga, Kurumu is shown to be a kind and soft-hearted girl who loves her rivals for Tsukune's love like sisters, tenderly comforting and supporting them in their moments of sadness, as well as defending them when they are in danger. This kind-hearted character-trait is downplayed in the anime in favor of a more typical "flirt" character, although the kind-heartedness is still present, and in reality, she is actually an innocent character. Despite this, an often running gag in both series is when she uses her breasts to seduce Tsukune, which, more often than not, makes his nose bleed and causes him to suffocate. She also attempts to use baked sweets laced with love potions to secure his affections, though they never seem to reach him. Also, no matter where they are, she somehow manages to interfere with any tender moment between Tsukune and Moka, often by appearing when least expected.

In an omake, Kurumu reveals she has a serious weakness for sweets, to the extent that she once ate poisoned cookies that she made and planned to give to Moka. The incident seems to have bought her some control over this trait, as the aforementioned love sweets are intact whenever they appear.

Described as a tough character, Kurumu sports a pair of bat wings, tail and razor-sharp nails in her true form, and has notable body strength (seen when carrying people during flight). The use of illusions and reality-bending techniques make up for her lack of combat abilities. Kurumu also carries a unique, innate sense of knowing when danger might occur. As of the second manga serialization, she is learning basic witchcraft.

Kurumu's mother is Ageha Kurono, who appears during the start of the school festival under the belief that Tsukune is her daughter's fiancé.

Kurumu's power is great even among succubuses she is able to glide through mind barriers with ease... "It's talent of rather. It's the result of her wholehearted feelings."

Yukari Sendo (仙童 紫)

Her true form is a witch. She always like wearing a witch costume (which consist of hat and cape), which is considered by some of the students to be a violation of the school rules. Despite being the smartest student around the Yokai Academy, ranking #1 on the examination, she was lonely and a serious prankster before meeting Moka. She initially hates Tsukune since she claims she's in love with Moka, and uses her magical powers to try and drive them apart. However, after both Tsukune and Moka save her from her monster classmates, she falls for HIM too. Her obsession with both has driven her to try to create a 3-way relationship between them all. As a witch, she had serious problems with being discriminated against as the witches are viewed as the "border beings". Border beings are beings that are viewed as being something between humans and supernaturals as it is impossible to tell the difference by appearance alone. After making friends with Moka and Tsukune, she apologized to her class and became better received by her classmates. She's also the youngest of the students of the academy, being only 11 years old.
