Tokyo Mew Mew

Tokyo Mew Mew

Synopsis

On her first date with the cutest boy in school, Ichigo is zapped by a mysterious ray that scrambles her DNA with that of the endangered Iriomote wildcat. The next day, Ichigo discovers that she has developed the agility (and occasionally the ears and tail) of a cat, as well as the power to transform into a pink-haired superheroine, Mew Ichigo. She and four other girls, each endowed with the genes of a different "Red Data" animal, have been selected for the top-secret Mew Project, which aims to protect the Earth from an alien menace known as Deep Blue.

Main Character

Mint AizawaMint Aizawa (藍沢 みんと)
Aizawa Mint is a fictional character in the manga and anime series Tokyo Mew Mew. In the English dub Mew Mew Power, Mint's name was changed to Corina Bucksworth, and in the Italian dub, Mint's name was changed to Mina Aizawa. Mint is the second of the five Mews to appear in the series.

Mint is a rich girl who was used to the lifestyle until she became infused with the DNA of a Blue Lorikeet. At first she was shocked and had no idea what to do. Ichigo guides her along. But quickly accepts her being a Mew Mew and realizes the tasks she needs to do. Mint's introduction in Episode 2 ("A new comrade – Justice lies in a real lady ~Nya!") is a little different from her manga introduction. Ichigo never meets her and her other comrades until this episode. Mint gives her a handkerchief after her dog, Mickey, licks Ichigo's face, and Ichigo later follows her to her house when Masha detects something strange; she was going to look for a Chimera Anima, not to find out if Mint is the second Mew Mew. Also, Ryou never tells Ichigo that Mint is her comrade - it only becomes apparent when her Mew Mark is revealed before the battle when her dress was ripped in the back.

Mint can be mean, lazy, snobbish, and at times, very sarcastic. One of the only people Mint is nice to is Fujiwara Zakuro, she admires Zakuro very much almost to the point of being obsessed with her, it is hinted along to that she is in love with Zakuro, giving off that she is indeed intersted in a Yuri-type relationship,. Her favorite thing in the world is her pet dog Mickey, whom she really cares for. Mint enjoys having her afternoon tea and rarely helps out at the cafe. Although Mint is a snob to Ichigo, empathetic, a nice person and cares about her friends. Her feelings are very important to her and can easily be hurt. She is often seen drinking tea at work, calling it her "daily ritual", instead of helping others.

Mint's family is rich and lives in a mansion. Her mother and father are almost never home, and her grandmother has to look after her.

She has a brother named Aizawa Seiji who appeared in Episode 9, and not in the manga. He is older, and more serious then Mint. He doesn't spend much time with her, because he has to deal with some important and difficult things, like business. Because of this, he once called Mint "lucky", because she only does ballet. The Mews met him in the episode, but he didn't pay much attention, due to him being busy. When Mint was to perform ballet, she wanted Seiji to come, but he was busy again and couldn't attend, even the Mews tried to persuade him. When he finally came, however, Mint told him to get back to work, making him angry. As Seiji was leaving, a Chimera Anima attacked them. Mint scolded the monster for hurting her brother, who tried to protect her. After she and Mew Ichigo defeated the Chimera Anima, Seiji gave his sister some flowers to show he still cares for her.

Transformation: Mew Mew Mint, Metamorphosis!
Attack: Ribbon Mint Echo!

Kisshu Kisshu (キッシュ)
Kisshu is one of, if not the most important antagonist in the series.

He gets a crush on Mew Ichigo in the beginning of the show and struggles with that through the whole series. He tries several times to "get" Ichigo.
He died protecting Ichigo and later he comes back to life thanks to her.

Keiichiro AkasakaKeiichiro Akasaka (赤坂 圭一郎)
Keiichiro Akasaka (赤坂 圭一郎 Akasaka Kei'ichirō?) is the manager and baker of Cafe Mew Mew and Ryou's partner in the Mew Project. Five years before the start of Tokyo Mew Mew, Keiichiro worked with Dr. Shirogane, Ryou's father, on the Mew Project in the United States. After Ryou's parents were killed in a lab explosion, Keiichiro went with Ryou to Japan to continue working on the Mew Project. Keiichiro cares a great deal for Ryou, and worries when he risks himself to help the Mew Mews. Knowing he couldn't stop Ryou, though, he only makes him promise to return because he'll be waiting with tea to welcome him home. Keiichiro's age is not given in the manga and anime adaptations. In the official game guide for the 2002 Playstation game Tōkyō Myū Myū – Tōjō Shin Myū Myū! – Minna Issho ni Gohōshi Suru Nyan, he is listed as being twenty-one years of age. In Mew Mew Power promotional materials, he is stated to be seventeen.
Keiichiro is considered to be a gentleman by the Mew Mews, with a charming, tactful, and kind personality. He is shown to have a mischievous and flirtatious side, however, such as offering to kiss Ichigo to change her out of her cat form. Ichigo once wondered if Keiichiro might be the Blue Knight after she sees he has an injury in the same spot that the Blue Knight had been injured in earlier in the day. The injury, however, came from Pudding having an accident while practicing a trick. Although Keiichiro is not shown to have any romantic interests in the manga, in the fourteen episode of the anime adaptation, he is shown to have an ex-girlfriend named Rei Nishina, a researcher studying butterflies. He broke up with her due to their both having busy lives, however he always makes a special cake at the cafe for her birthday. She is attacked by the aliens and her spirit is stolen in an attempt to turn her into a chimera anima. After she is saved by the Mew Mews, they go their separate ways.
In the anime series, his voice actor is Hikaru Midorikawa. In the Mew Mew Power English adaptation his name is changed to Wesley J. Coolridge III and he is voiced by Andrew Rannells.

Purin FonPurin Fon (プディングフォング)
Pudding is a hyper, lively child that likes to act and put on performances. She usually refers to herself in the third person and puts "na no da" at the end of almost all her sentences in the Japanese manga and anime, as a sort of catchphrase. At Cafe Mew Mew, Pudding performs tricks while being a waitress, and often breaks things because of this. Balancing on a big ball, fire breathing and dish spinning are only a few of her tricks.

Zakuro FujiwaraZakuro Fujiwara (藤原 ざくろ)
Zakuro Fujiwara is the last of the main Mew Mews introduced. As with the others, she first appears at the start of the series, helping rescue Lettuce from bullies at the endangered animal exhibit. She reappears at end of the second volume, when Mint finds a picture of her in a magazine and recognizes her from the museum. When the Mew Mews first meet Zakuro, she seems friendly, but after discovering who they are, she coldly brushes them off. Kish decides to target Zakuro, because she is separated from the others. The Mew Mews come to her aid, and after the battle, Zakuro decides she will make an exception for them and become a part of the team. Infused with the DNA of a Gray Wolf, Zakuro has a wolf tail and ears while in her Mew Mew form, and fights with a whip.

Zakuro is presented as a mature character, who works as a professional model. As her biggest fan Mint effuses, Zakuro has "long, glossy, raven hair" with "dark, intelligent, yet sensitive eyes" and "long, strong and thin legs". During an audition, she is shown being helpful to the new models – the other Mew Mews working undercover – and its stated that she is well-traveled with the ability to speak five languages.

In the anime adaptation, Zakuro's background is more developed, and she is shown to be estranged from her family, having left home two years before. She is depicted as being a Christian, wearing a cross and attending a Christian church. Junko Noda provides her voice in the anime. In the Mew Mew Power English adaptation, her name is changed to Renée Roberts and the references to her Christian faith are edited out of the series. Her voice in the English dub is supplied by Mollie Weaver.

Lettuce MidorikawaLettuce Midorikawa (碧川 レタス)
A 13-year-old intelligent girl. Third member of the group favorite color: green. At first she is very shy and she was alone, but with the help of Ichigo and Mint everything changes. She has a crush on Ryou Shirogane.

Ichigo MomomiyaIchigo Momomiya (桃宮いちご)
Birthday:March 14 - 15
Star sign: Pisces

Momomiya Ichigo is the main character of the manga and anime series Tokyo Mew Mew. In the English dub, Mew Mew Power, Ichigo's name was changed to Zoey Hanson, and in the Italian dub, Ichigo's name was changed to Strawberry Momomiya.

Ichigo was just a normal 12-year old junior high student who was on a date with Aoyama Masaya until her DNA is mysteriously merged with the DNA of an Iriomote Wildcat. Now she is the 'leader' of a group of girls, whose DNA were also merged with that of an endangered species, called Tokyo Mew Mew. The Mew Mews have to save the world from Chimera Animas, the aliens, and the alien leader, Deep Blue. Originally, Ichigo wants nothing to do with the "Mew Project", instead wishing to simply spend time with her crush, Masaya. Later, she grudgingly accepts her fate, realizing what she is (a Mew) and the importance of the task assigned to her.

Ichigo has some aspects of the typical magical girl heroine personality: sweet and caring, shy around her love interest, prone to overlooking things the more perceptive and more intelligent can see, and is overactive when she is mad or excited. Ichigo reacts very angrily whenever a loved one is hurt, and dislikes being treated like an object, hence her reaction to Kishu. Ichigo tends to go dreamy and blushes when in the presence of her crush, Masaya, typically head over heels, and she occasionally becomes confused with her feelings, and is prone to act rashly. Many times, she puts her own relationship before saving the world. Overall, she is a friendly person who's willing to give second chances to the people she likes.

She is injected with the DNA of an Iriomote Wildcat. Later she finds herself acting like, instead of a wildcat, an ordinary housecat and, remembering the dream sequence of a cat jumping into her body when she was injected, realizes something has happened to her.
Later, as the story progresses, her cat DNA begins to overtake her human DNA. When she is excited or nervous, she grows cat ears and a tail. But if she gets very nervous or excited, she turns into a cat. In the anime, when she kisses someone, she turns into a cat. To turn back to normal, she must kiss someone again. Her crush Masaya Aoyama, as well as Ryou Shirogane (as Alto), save her a lot of times, and Pudding Fong on one occasion.

Transformation: Mew Mew Strawberry, Metamorphosis!

Ryou ShiroganeRyou Shirogane (白金 稜)
Name translation: 稜 Ryou"=angle, edge, corner, power, majesty, spirit "白 Shiro"=white "金 gane"= money, gold ("白金"= platinum). The translation of Ryou's surname suggests that he is incredibly wealthy.

DoB: unknown
Age: 15 (16 in Mew Mew Power)
Eye color: Aquamarine blue
Hair color: Blond
Height: N/A
Weight: N/A

Special: Ryou has the ability to transform into a cat. This is because he wanted to make sure the DNA fusion would be safe in humans, so he tested it on himself. Hence, in cat form, he takes on a new personality and becomes "Alto", the grey feline who's always helping out Ichigo (the main character).

Mew Mew mark: Ryou assumably has a DNA mark like the rest of the girls. His symbol is located on the right side of his neck and is always hidden by his collar.

Personality: Ryou comes from a wealthy family and has been stated to have an IQ surpassing 180, making him a natural genius, especially when it comes to genetics. It has also been rumored that he graduated from an American University. Because of this, and events in his past, he has a removed, sarcastic, and rude nature towards most of the cast, apart for his childhood friend, Akasaka-san. Despite this, he seems to be a kind person underneath, something that Ichigo catches on to later in the series, probably most obvious when he is trying to encourage Lettuce who has little self-confidence. He seems to have a romantic interest in the main character, Ichigo, but, these feelings are not returned. Ryou is headstrong and serious, but has moments where he will behave immaturely, such as his arguing with and teasing Ichigo.
